The 172nd Maintenance Group is responsible for the maintenance of nine C-17 Globemaster III aircraft that provide tactical airlift, aeromedical and humanitarian services on a global level. Subordinate units include:

• 172d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (AMXS)
• 172d Maintenance Squadron (MXS)
• 172d Maintenance Ops Flight (MOF)
