C-130 Hercules

1972-1986

On June 30, 1972, the 172d Military Airlift Group was again redesignated as the 172d Tactical Airlift Group.

The 172d Tactical Airlift Group transitioned to the C-130E Hercules aircraft, replacing its previous aircraft. The conversion to the C130E Hercules marked a new chapter in the unit's history and allowed it to continue providing essential transport and logistical support to both state and national missions.

After 27 years of service, the Tactical Airlift Group was finally equipped with a brand new aircraft- the latest version of the Hercules, the C-130H. This ultra-modern model, was a significant upgrade from the unit's previous aircraft, and provided advanced capabilities and increased reliability.

With this new aircraft in its fleet, the 172d Tactical Airlift Group was better equipped than ever before to carry out its vital mission of providing essential transport and logistical support to both state and national missions.
